Historical Background
The Protestant Fachhochschule Berlin (EFB) is a University
of Applied Sciences which was founded in 1971. It received
state recognition on February 17th, 1972.
It is an establishment maintained by the Protestant Church
in Berlin-Brandenburg with the status of a public corporate
body. Our Fachhochschule's particular tradition is that it
is the oldest church-supported educational institution for
Social Work in Germany
Degree Programmes
Through scientifically based teaching and research
the University of Applied Sciences provides academic training in three degree
programmes and one Bachelor study programme:
- Social Work
- Nursing Care Management
- Protestant Religious Education
- Bachelor of Nursing
Professional qualification is attained after eight semesters
(four years). The syllabus includes theoretical and practical
education. A completed degree at a Fachhochschule is awarded
as a "Diploma", which differs from a university diploma in that
it is attained at a Fachhochschule. The degrees of our
Fachhochschule are state approved.
The dual study programme "Bachelor of Nursing" is a full-time course
combining practical and theoretical units. It leads to the academic
degree "Bachelor of Science", as well as to a vocational German Nursing
qualification. This dual system of studies includes lectures,
given at the Evangelische Fachhochschule Berlin and practical
training which takes place exclusively at institutions which are
co-operation partners.
The learning of professional competence at the Evangelische
Fachhochschule Berlin is accompanied by the training of
the students' self-reflective, communicative and creative
abilities.
Through the Protestant character of the institution,
students are encouraged to reflect on the values and
beliefs which guide their professional work.
Members
At the moment there are 36 full-time
professors and 110
part-time teaching staff working at the EFB.
1141 students were enrolled in autumn 2008.

Information about the application procedure
Admission requirements
Foreign applicants should have the following qualifications:
- A higher education entrance qualification
- Proof of sufficient knowledge of German.
Applicants should also accept the Protestant character of
the Fachhochschule.
Applicants for Nursing Care Management and Protestant Religious
Education have to fulfil additional requirements.
Nursing Care Management: Applicants must have a degree in
Nursing and prove that they have had two years of full-time
employment.
Protestant Religious Education: Applicants must be members
of a Christian Church.
1. A higher education entrance qualification
Applicants of foreign origins must possess a higher education
entrance qualification. If the applicant's qualification
is recognized as equivalent to the German
qualification "Abitur", he/she can be directly admitted
to a course of study. If foreign applicants have an entrance
qualification that is only conditionally comparable to the
appropriate German qualification, they have to pass an assessment
test, the so-called Feststellungsprüfung, before they
can be admitted. Some Universities and Universities of applied science offer
courses that prepare for the Feststellungsprüfung. The
courses last one year and are called Studienkolleg. The Evangelische
Fachhochschule Berlin does not have a Studienkolleg.
Whether one's qualifications meet the requirements
for entrance to higher education depends on the assessment
of the following federal institution:
Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle der
Senatsverwaltung für Bildung, Jugend und Sport des Landes
Berlin
Beuthstraße 6 - 8
10117 Berlin
Germany
Please send certified copies translated into German.
Copies of documents in English or French can be send without
translation.
This institution will issue a certificate, if it recognizes
your entrance qualification as appropriate. This certificate
is necessary for the application.

Foreign applicants have to prove sufficient knowledge of
German before commencing their studies. They must take the
German language proficiency test for admission to higher education
called Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang
ausländischer Studienbewerber (DSH)".
Applicants may be exempted from this test, if they meet
one of the following requirements:
